چکیده
The type of cluster exemplified in (1) is the most flexible one, consisting of auxiliary, modal and predicative verb. A perception verb in place of modal yields has a by and large equivalent flexibility. Throughout the paper, I use the following abbreviations for the above patterns: ∗For fruitful discussion and insightful comments, I want to thank the audience of the UCLA/University of Potsdam Workshop on Head Movement, October 21/22, 2001, UCLA, Los Angeles, the audience at another presentation at the Graduiertenkolleg of the University of Stuttgart, November, 14, 2001, and the following colleagues and friends: Artemis Alexiadou, Daniel Büring, Gisbert Fanselow, Jane Grimshaw, Gunnar Hrafn Hrafnbjargarsson, Hilda Koopman, Jens Michaelis, Gereon Müller, Tanja Schmid, Dominique Sportiche, Arthur Stepanov, Ed Stabler, Tim Stowell, Carola Trips, Hubert Truckenbrodt, Sten Vikner, and the Potsdam Syntax colloquium. 1German dialects vary a lot in their morpho-phonology. As I am only concerned with word order facts in this paper, I am abstracting away from these differences, and only give the examples, with a few exceptions, in their Standard German “translation”.

Looking for Genetic Diversity in Iranian Apple Cultivars (Malus × domestica Borkh.)
The cultivated apple (Malus domestica) is one of the most important fruit crops cultivated in different regions of the world including Iran. For production and breeding of high quality apple, the knowledge of genetic diversity of the cultivated apples is necessary. Therefore we studied genetic diversity of 25 genotypes by using ISSR molecular markers. In present study, ten ISSR primers produc...
متن کاملWord Order Constraints on German Verb Clusters
There is a broad concensus among researchers working within the paradigm of HPSG that argument-inheritance (Hinrichs and Nakazawa (1989; 1994)) is an essential operation in the analysis of so-called verb clusters in German. An argument-inheritance verb subcategorizes for an unsaturated verbal complement, and for all the complements on the COMPS-list of this verbal complement. In German, auxilia...
متن کاملExploring Soft-Clustering for German (Particle) Verbs across Frequency Ranges
In this paper we explore the role of verb frequencies and the number of clusters in soft-clustering approaches as a tool for automatic semantic classification. Relying on a large-scale setup including 4,871 base verb types and 3,173 complex verb types, and focusing on synonymy as a taskindependent goal in semantic classification, we demonstrate that low-frequency German verbs are clustered sign...
متن کاملWhen nothing is good enough: Dialectal variation in Norwegian imperatives
This paper presents an analysis of imperative formation in Norwegian. The analysis occasions discussion of variation as reranking in OT, as well as providing a novel example of a grammar in which 'null' is the optimal candidate. The Norwegian imperative is in most cases identical to the verb stem (cf. Faarlund, Lie & Vannebo 1997:477). For verbs having the familiar disyllabic structure with a f...
